Actually, I think we should welcome McCain's plan, and actively support him for President. He'll destroy health care coverage for many people, and greatly increase costs for those "lucky" enough to get coverage, thereby creating the political conditions for public acceptance of single payer. Think about it: Over four thousand Americans have been killed in George Bush's war, a tragic waste of lives and a permanent blemish on America's honor.

And how many Americans have died these past seven-plus years from lack of affordable medical care? How many more will die if we don't elect a Democrat president in November. Tragic as war-time deaths are, these people are also victims of failed policies.

I am a Clinton supporter in no small part because Obama would begin by leaving millions of Americans without health-care coverage. But even Obama's ideas are vastly superior to anything we would get with McCain in the White House.

Oh, and by the way: All this should remind us that it also matters oh-so-much that we keep and increase Democratic majorities in the House and Senate.
