Momma said wonk you out

IN CASE YOU WEREN'T WORRYING ABOUT ENOUGH THINGS.

Reading The New York Times' survey of Ukraine gives you a good sense of how easily the the global convulsion of the economic crisis could give way to utter geopolitical crisis. That's why it's worrying to read that the promised IMF funds may not materialize. For a lot of these countries, currency infusions may be all that's standing against governmental collapse.

COMMENTS

Perhaps Obama should be concerned more with this part of international relations instead of betraying our troops and stabbing our military in the back for the sake of the Saudi sultans and Persian mullahs he bows before. Those are the countries he's a citizen of, not the USA.

Anonymous is an idiot.

When someone has to resort to calling their opponents names, he's lost the argument.

I've won this argument.

Stupid gets up early around here. Can't blame you for remaining anonymous.

Yeah. Our troops feel so betrayed.

Saudi sultans AND Persian mullahs? Those two groups hate each other, and the former are terrified of the latter. It would be quite a trick to serve both.

I thought he served Kenyan warlords.

Furthermore, to my knowledge, he has never kissed the Saudi king or held hands with him and strolled around the rose garden.

When someone has to resort to calling their opponents names, he's lost the argument.

Actually, Philly Boy makes an empirical observation and the facts seem to back up his claim, so I would say that he is the actual winner.

Care to back up your claims with any facts, "Anonymous?" Didn't think so.

I had to laugh when I read your comment. My first thought was of George W. Bush holding hands with the Saudi prince.

I'm mystified that George W Bush has time to post on internet forums, and think he should use his full name, instead of hiding behind Anonymous.

Anonymous, why do you have problems with bowing before Saudi sultans? I, Bandar, was made an honorary member of the Bush clan, I have partied in the royal American city of Crawford. You owe me an apology! You can give it to me at the tea party, as I will be there protesting taxes on the rich right along side with you.

My first thought was of George W. Bush holding hands with the Saudi prince.

You mean this prince who is now king? Yeah, Anonymous is living in a parallel universe.

Interesting that Anonymous has managed to hijack the entire comment thread. Not a single comment yet about a very real problem in Ukraine that could lead to instability and actual war.

O noes anony mouse can has winnings...

Back on topic: I was a bit surprised at the original 'Europe doesn't want stimulus' threads both on this blog and elsewhere.

My response then as now is, what part of Europe are you talking about?

Looks like Anonymous messed up -- if you're going to be a troll, stay away from the facts because you can't win against reality -- yes Bush had a special relationship with Saudi royalty, and yes our troops love Obama! Better to just stick with character assassination like Rush and Bill (you're second post is more on track).

leo, the part of Europe that would supply the funds for the stimulus.

Eastern Ukraine or the Don Basin is more than 40% Russian, the native language is Russian. For those who think it is a good idea for the Ukraine to join NATO we should consider that if that happened the Don Basin would probably want to join Russia. Or at least there would be enough people there that wanted that.

That could mean civil war in Ukraine with the US on one side and Russian on the other. This possibility was there before the economic collapse, it is even more likely now.

Still think inviting Ukraine into Nato is a good idea?

When someone has to resort to calling their opponents names, he's lost the argument.

While not necessarily true, this observation does hold in the case of the individual who called Obama a "backstabbing" non-American "betrayer."

Definitely a case of name calling for the loss.

But, on the bright side, a case of obliviousness about irony for the win!

"leo, the part of Europe that would supply the funds for the stimulus.

And here it is, I thought the bunch (Ukraine excepting) was called the 'EU'. They're going to have to work on what that final 'U' means.

I admire a site that, even when it gets a reaaallly stupid comment first up, doesn't delete it. It's a shame that comment, like a turd in a punchbowl, does tend to colour the thread but I guess that's the price of intelligent, ethical blogging. Thanks EK.
As for the basket case that is the Ukraine and the disaster formerly known as the USSR, yes, it's like watching a slow motion car wreck that presented problems before the banksters rorted the world. It's another crime to add to their slate.

Furthermore, to my knowledge, he has never kissed the Saudi king or held hands with him and strolled around the rose garden.

Hey, that was manly hand-holding between manly ultra-male men!! It wasn't the sissy thing you're trying to make it sound like!

And it wasn't a rose garden! I think they were bluebells. I clearly remember them walking hand in manly hand down the little path and Bush telling Abdullah what the flowers were, and I'm pretty sure he said bluebells. Man knows his Hyacinthaceae.

Perhaps Obama should be concerned more with main street blue collar middle class Americans instead betraying us that brought him to this dance. Heres an idea.....quit sucking the elite banksters ass.
Hes alraedy lost me. Fuck him

Eastern Ukraine has been part of Russia since at least the 17th century, arguably since the 9th century. Just divide Ukraine between Poland and Russia and be done with it. America has no vested interest in an independent Ukraine, none whatsoever.
