PRIMARY NIGHT.
Clinton wins Kentucky, Obama wins Oregon. Obama's speech began with a gracious tribute to Hillary, who he said has "broken barriers and changed the world that my daughters, and all of our daughters, will grow up in." Then he pivoted to an intense attack on McCain. He hit on lobbyists, on Iraq, on social policy, and wrapped all of it in the question of change. "Whether McCain's policies represent long-standing conviction or Washington calculation is for others to decide," he said. "But they don't represent change." And that was the nice part. This election, Obama stated,"is a choice between the past and the future."
Tonight, the general election began.

Tonight, the general election began.
Nope, that happened last week when McCain/Bush got their asses kicked by Obama.

Obama had a great line about a "policy that puts a price on pollution." That's good Econ 101 and good politics.

The best part of his speech is the "Change is coming" riff at the end.
It's also great to see the man happy. It seems like it's been a while since he's been really enjoying himself.

No, the best part of the speech is after the speech, after the obligatory U2 song, they played "Too Hot to Stop" by The Bar-Kays.

the obligatory U2 song
I think that was Springsteen's The Rising.

Being extra-nice to Clinton is Obama's way of saying:
PWNED!!!1!
10-4, good buddy.

It should be said that this was not only one of the best speeches of the campaign cycle from Obama, but one of the best political speeches I've heard. Combative, gracious (to Clinton), emotional, and inspiring. I'm usually pretty cynical about this type of stuff, but really it was a pretty terrific speech.

@professordarkheart
pwned.. sweet
a price on pollution? That should go into the purchase price of all products, not just carbon producing ones. Ive thought this since I took several political econ classes long ago and they said literally 'it doesnt matter when pollution is paid for as long as someone does."
To me however if you put a price tag on it before its purchased, it might just never be bought in the first place. ..especially if there is a comparable, cheaper, less polluting option.
/digression.
nice speech.

It must be nice to be so naive and live in puffy cloud castles with sugar plum lakes and good government.
Anyone who still believes that American fossil fuel conservation makes sense is deluding themselves.
Which statement is accurate:
1. If an American doesn't use the fossil fuel efficiently to provide goods and services to his fellow man, it will stay where it belongs in the ground and the world will be safe from its evil effects.
2. If an American doesn't use the fossil fuel efficiently to provide goods and services to his fellow man, it gets sold to a less wealthy, less developed third world country where it is used much less efficiently and causing far more pollution then it would have.
Now I am all for conserving on actual waste of energy, like the Oscars and three quarters of hollywood movies, etc.
But don't kid yourself that your conservation is actually reducing world pollution, it is not, it is increasing it.
The fuels you don't consume and sold off to countries that can't afford the higher price and are used in very inefficent and highly polluting ways. From 55 Chevy's in Cuba to open pit metal smelting in India, to
60s technology in China.
It is the same way with HOV lanes. You think you are doing good by having just Prius's and multi-person vehicles using the HOV lane but what you really cause is a whole bunch of SUVs, trucks etc. to sit in traffic burning fuel for hours.
It would be much more logical and save gas to let the high polluting vehicles use the HOV and have the Priuses sit in traffic.

Much like how those handicapped spots you can't use force you to spend more time looking for parking.
Do you have any statistical evidence this is the case? My suspicion is that you're bad at math. Given your performance in the gay marriage thread, this extends to being bad at thinking in general.

Sweetie is a republican troll. Why on earth are you even bothering? It's not like those people have an honest bone in their body. They are scum, and they deserve to be treated like something you scrape off the bottom of your shoe.
Ridicule is more effective than engagement. I wish people were logical beings, but they aren't and theres no reason to pretend that they are.
