MADDOW GETS HER OWN SHOW.
Rachel Maddow just got her own show. And Keith Olbermann announced it, as far as I can tell, in a chummy, comfortable diary on Daily Kos. You know, when I was young, this world had rules. And standards. And liberals did not get TV shows. And liberals who had TV shows did not write on DailyKos. And liberals who had TV shows and wrote on DailyKos did not get TV shows for their even more liberal guest hosts.
Meanwhile, as today's afternoon interlude, here's Maddow crushing Buchanan on S-CHIP.

The format is key. Ideally, an elitist liberal cocktail segment would suit the 9pm hour.

the coolest part of this is that nbc's response to the whining from the right that they're too partisan is to get more partisan.
Keith should bring back Amy Robach. What a dime.

Go check out the comments on Keith's diary. Much happy dancing and nominations for Sam Seder to replace Rachel as guest host on Countdown. And a hearty woo hoo from me too!

Rachel thinks that whatever they propose to pay for it will pass. Wrong. Everyone thinks the other guy is going to pay for it. Once the bullseye is on them, you'd see suppport plummet.
The devil is in the details, which is why the Dems don't give the details.

Didn't seem to be skimping on the details there, Tommer.
And, c'mon. It's not like the Republicans spend any less than the Democrats, the Dems just pay for it, instead of borrowing.

I'm sort of curious about who or what this show replaces - is it Abrams? (That would make sense - Abrams was a stopgap for losing Scarborough to mornings), or does she get the 10 oclock slot (are they still filling that with the "live from Prison" series)? I'd rather she replace Olbermann myself... or at least Gregory. But I bet those two soldier on, as well as Matthews.
At 9 or 10, it seems to me she's starting at a fantastic disadvantage - Anderson Cooper's still got his shine on at CNN on later night, and between Larry King and Hannity and Colmes it's hard to see how Maddow makes inroads at 9 (yes, she's not them... but it's not like a Hannity audience is yearning for Maddow's perspective, and King's celebrity happy talk is remarkably resilient). I wish her the best; I want her to succeed (though I'm less the partisan cheerleader on it than I am simply that she seems smart and sane and good at it, even now). But I agree, the devil is in the details... and few people seem engaged enough in how cable news is working these days... and not working. And why. And the partisan, divided nature of the work is really the least of the problems.

I think we should pay for the health care of these kids. Someday, we'll be asking them to pay for our Social Security. We have to keep them in good shape and properly educate them so they can thrive and make a healthy income and shell out for the Social Security.
Very glad to hear Maddow will get her own program.

it would have been helpful if Rachel had jumped on the repeated social security crisis falsehoods. And why not remind folks that everyone else does health care better than the USA and for much less money? A rational health care system is the solution to the so-called entitlement crisis.
