Quick convention observation: This assemblage is far more racially diverse than was 2004's event. That's not exactly a surprise given Obama's coalition, but it's nice to see.

It IS nice to see the Dem. convention look like America (as Bill Clinton oft said).
The TV version of this is less diverse: the cameras seem to focus mostly on black folks and white women. The Latinos are almost invisible, and so are the Asians, First Americans, and middle-class, middle-age white men.
One reform that the Dems should consider is to contract for their own exclusive feeds for crowd coverage, podium coverage and general atmosphere. Restrict the private networks to their interviews and table-talk using their cams and allow them access to the 'pool' coverage for the DNC-controlled stuff.
How the party is conveyed on TV should be a priority for the Dem. party. Perhaps they could do this with CSPAN-co-sponsorship, but with party contractors calling the choice on live camera selection.
Actually, I'd go even further in the matter of control, but I'm probably in the margins on this. But I don't see how one can justify letting, for instance, Faux News, distort the coverage the way they do. Our Party, Our Convention, Our Media availability. If the private media don't like the rules, make your own convention.

North Korea could learn a thing or two from you...
ElV, the canonical phrasing of your comment is supposed to take the form, "You know who ELSE used their own cameras and feeds of their public events? That's right..."
I just can't wait for J.C. Watts quadrennial run around the Republican National Convention like Harold Heckuba (Phil Silvers) in that immortal Gilligan's Island episode where he plays all the characters in Hamlet...Never gets old...
Surely by now we must have the techology to arrange that every viewer sees his or her own demographic over-represented in the crowd. Then the liberals can see a convention that "looks like America" and the swing voters can see reassuring white people.
This post has me giggling as I am reminded of the minstrel show that GOP staged at their 2000 Convention in Philadelphia before a virtually entire white audience. And it

Indeed. "The White Man's Party" has come a long way. And good for them.

Nice to know someone has the power to tell peoples race simple by looking at them.
Amazing ability.
