DEPARTMENT OF ACID PRESS RELEASES.

From Matt Miller of the DSCC:

North Carolina Democratic Senate candidate Kay Hagan’s unanimous streak of newspaper endorsements finally came to an end today as Elizabeth Dole’s hometown newspaper, the Washington, D.C.-based Washington Times, became the first major newspaper to endorse her re-election. While Dole won the endorsement of the conservative Beltway publication, Hagan has been endorsed by every major North Carolina newspaper, including the Asheville Citizen-Times, Charlotte Observer, Durham Herald-Sun, Greensboro News and Record, Raleigh News & Observer, Spring Hope Enterprise, Wilmington Star-News, Wilson Times, Winston-Salem Chronicle, and the Winston-Salem Journal.
Dole, it should be said, is from Salisbury, North Carolina. Indeed, her Wikipedia page boasts that "she still speaks with a noticeable Southern accent."

COMMENTS

Dole, it should be said, was born in Salisbury, NC. Her wiki page also notes, quite accurately, that she hasn't lived in the state in more than 40 years.

The Moonie Times is a "major newspaper"?

As my mother's family in Rowan County and Salisbury will tell you, Ms. Dole only comes to Salisbury at maximum twice a year for just long enough to get the local newsrag to notice.

No, msw. It's not.

one aspect of the campaign against dole is that she's an outsider who spends more time in DC than in North Carolina.

That's why they called the washington times her "hometown" paper.

But i'm sure you knew that...

But--in this case--Washington, DC is the real North Carolina. Why this is so hard to grasp?

I believe the phrase is "Damning with faint praise."

That is one great press release. Nicely played, Matt Miller.
