MALKIN>MCCAIN.
Though it's true that the blogosphere showed admirable restraint in refusing to push the Ashley Todd hoax until more details emerged, you really can't say the same for the McCain campaign. They pushed the story hard, hoping to eke out some temporary political advantage from a brutal street crime (country first, my friends!).
The McCain campaign: Not quite as fair-minded and temperamentally even as Michelle Malkin.

Restraint, Ezra? My god man, go look at the comments at Free Republic and follow the time line. Duped. And oh boy, are they completely pissed off at having been duped. The funniest part is the theories they are pushing now to "prove" that this deranged girl was somehow an Obama plant. My favorite is the guy who wants her "voting record" checked (yeah, a 20 year old has a "voting record" a mile long!). Some are even blaming MoveOn for making this happen (!!!!?!?). Their brains are absolutely exploding.
God knows what these guys are gonna be typing on Nov 5.

In fairness though, as the story indicates it was the state McCain campaign that pushed it; nat'l HQ had no knowledge.
Still damning, though, especially given the latest "bet everything on PA" strategery.

"Brutal street crime"?
Has something changed? From what I was reading yesterday, it looked like there was no "street crime" at all. This is just a young, mentally ill woman whose story got seized by political operators.
There may have been a crime, but it didn't happen on the street. She pretended she was a victim, and then the right actually made her one.

"The McCain campaign: Not quite as fair-minded and temperamentally even as Michelle Malkin."
Now that's acerbic, Ezra!

We have no idea if she is mentally ill. Stop excusing her for this heinous act.

If the McCain campaign has any intelligence and imagination (not that they've shown any yet), they'd be sweating bullets right about now.
This young woman has already displayed a talent for fabrication. What's to stop her from trying to evade some level of responsibility by saying "the campaign told me to do it"?

Seems like a safe bet to me, and it doesn't excuse her at all.
But, OK, let's run off at the mouth like the McCain campaign did! I'll bet she was flown in on Cindy's private jet just to play this dirty trick!

Let me be clear: I don't think the McCain campaign had anything whatsoever to do with this. No way no how.
I just don't think that this person, Ashley Todd, should be regarded as "ill" instead of "criminal" and "racist" and "scum of the earth willing to tell awful lies that she thinks will help turn people against a black candidate." This was a thought-out, premeditated act (the Twittering, etc.). She's not ill. She's just a liar.
Posted by: jeebus | October 25, 2008 6:21 PM
She's no more mentally ill than any other College Republican. She thought she could pull off a stunt that, had it not been found out, would have helped her candidate. It was just done incompetently, but incompetence is not a mental illness.

Ashley Todd: new dog, same tricks.

What is it with Texas anyway?

I can't be the only one that read that title and thought "Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburg Penguins," can I?

I am not sure I understand the liberals point regarding Ashley Todd?
At what point did the left decided LYING was a bad thing?
Obamas entire tax plan is a lie. The man has NEVER been for a tax cut in his entire career.
Obamas current position on gun rights is a LIE, he has opposed gun rights his entire career.
Obamas current position on Israel is a total LIE, he has never been a freind of Israel and all his mentors and colleagues have been vehemently anti-Israel for 20 years.
Obamas description of his relationship with Williams Ayers is a LIE. Evidence shows they were much closer and Ayers most likely helped extensively write Obamas first book.
Since when did some campaign volunterrs lies become so much more important the the candidates lies, which basically show Obama has never held the positions and world views in his entire elective career that he now claims to hold.

I am shocked that Ezra and other liberal bloggers do not even adress Obamas friend and mentors total lack of media coverage.
It doesn't bother bloggers, who claim to be searching for the truth about issues hat aren't getting into the main stream media don't even want to addresss that Barack Obamas mentors, friends, political alliances from his time in Chicago all feel that doing extensive interviews with te media would only HURT Obamas chances.
Rev Wright, William Ayers, Khalidi, Al Mansour, Dorhn, Rezko, Farrakhan, etc.
all believe if they talk openly about the Barack Obama they know and his relationship with them they will only HURT his chances of being elected. Doesn't that tell us quite a bit about the real Obama.

Hey anonymous- go fuck yourself.

"Doesn't that tell us quite a bit about the real Obama."
No.
This has been another edition of simple answers to stupid questions.

"I am not sure I understand the liberals point regarding Ashley Todd?"
Well, that's probably because you're a blind partisan moron.
"At what point did the left decided LYING was a bad thing?"
Q.E.D.
Dear heart, next time you want to lie, at least try to be somewhat subtle about it. Blatant lies are just so childish.
