AHEAD OF CONFIRMATION, SEBELIUS WATCHES HER BACK ON ABORTION.

In the past, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has won acclaim from pro-choice groups for consistently vetoing anti-abortion legislation. Not so last Friday. Sebelius signed a bill requiring doctors to ask patients, 30 minutes before scheduled abortions, if they would like to see an ultrasound image of the fetus or hear its heartbeat. Sebelius' Senate confirmation hearings to become secretary of health and human services begin tomorrow. Over the past month, she has consistently been attacked by social conservatives for her pro-choice record. --Dana Goldstein

Make that sellout, boring speaker.

Gee, I wonder how many poor, pregnant women seeking a free ultrasound during their pregnancy would be offered one from any medical provider or insurance company. Or is the ultrasound only offered as a coercive treatment?

Who is going to pay for all these ultrasounds to be performed? Does the woman seeking the abortion have to pay? Does the state pay for them all? In this era of rationed/denied healthcare, this seems just dumb and wasteful.

If this is reallt the most anti-choice thing the right wingers can get, we should really stop making Abortion the Most Important Thing In The World. We won and they lost. It's over.

In the vein of "See government never works -- we made sure of that", we have "See abortion causes women long term trauma -- we made sure of that".

Pathetic though that Sebelius wouldn't just veto this crap -- getting ready to make the hard decisions by cravenly repudiating her principles.

This seems like a reasonable compromise. I'm not sure Democrats are well-served rejecting even the most benign abortion regulation and restriction just because it doesn't pass muster with the pro-choice lobby.

The culture war has two sides and the pro-choice lobby has not always served the Democrats well.

We won and they lost. It's over.

Said the man. LOL.

With one hand on Sebellius's breast and another forcing beer down her throat, I approve of her right-wing pander.

This is why we the abortion debate has gone nowhere.
