The group blog of The American Prospect

A CHOICE. Joe Klein, in the below-referenced, awesomely linkless response to Greg, says the left-wing blogosphere is "overpopulated by illiberal leftists and reactionary progressives." That got me thinking -- which did he have in mind for Greg, or for The American Prospect? Are we illiberal leftists or reactionary progressives? I leave it to commenters to make their picks and explain.

I can't judge which is more appropriate for Tapped, but in the spirit of name-calling, how does one describe Joe Klein in the same oxymoronic way? My vote is for "liberaltarian Republicrat".

Screw Joe Klein.

Who cares what that hack has to say?

As opposed to the "liberal leftists" in Washington who were gung-ho about the Iraq War and cooperated with Bush on the tax cuts, bankruptcy, NCLB, etc, etc, etc...

Joe Klein is a weaselly cunt.

How about reactionary leftists?

You will always be *od-hating, abortion having, fag loving, brie eatin socialistts to me.

You guys are reactionary progressives. The RPs are nostalgic for the 30s, the ILs for the 60s. basically, the question is, do you oppose neoliberalism mainly because it's bad for American workers, or because it's abd for the 3rd world -- so of course the two categories aren't exclusive.

(No insult -- I'm an RP too, and a Prospect subscriber. yay!)

Either one is better than being called an islamofacist, so Joe Klein should be considered a friend.

Well, "illiberal" is another way of saying rude. So yeah, it's perfectly possible to be an illiberal leftist. But "reactionary progressive"? That involves such a contradiction my head is threatening to implode. There's alot of truthiness to that phrasing.
