DE NIRO SENT TO MEADOWLANDS TO WHACK HILLARY.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Actor Robert De Niro just took the stage at the Izod Arena in the Meadowlands -- home to the New Jersey Devils, Bruce Springsteen concerts and, possibly, a pair of cement shoes belonging to Jimmy Hoffa -- to make a speech in support of Barack Obama, who has pulled even with Hillary Clinton in the polls for Jersey's Super Tuesday primary.
DeNiro began his speech taking shots at Hillary Clinton's claim of "experience" as her virtue. Obama "didn't have the experience" to cast the wrong vote for the war in Iraq or invite "corporate interests" to the government trough.
Then he introduced Caroline Kennedy and Senator Ted Kennedy, who just took the stage to deliver a trademark barnburner. The crowd is chanting "Teddy, Teddy, Teddy." Stay tuned.
Update: Thanks to commenter Jack, who straightened me out on where the Devils actually play these days: in Newark's Prudential Center.

DeNiro: Enthusiasms, ethusiasms. What are mine? What draws my admiration? What is that which gives me joy? Politics!

And according to today's news, Hillary came back and reminded voters in NJ that Blacks and Italians never got along in the history of this state.

Actually, the NJ Devils don't play in the Izod Arena anymore - they now play in the Prudential Center in Newark.

Am I the only person who finds the "whack Hillary" phrase, um, disconcerting?
[note: not an HRC supporter in any way, just squeamish]

If he's so great, how come his health care plan sucks so hard? How come so many of his policies are fuzzy when it comes to offending the right-wingers he needs to vote with him to have a chance of defeating Hillary in the primaries? If he's so great, why does Chris Matthews like him?

Do the New Jersey Nets still play there? Izod Arena was Continental Arena was the Brendon Byrne Arena?

Shorter Jim H:
I would never belong to any winning political movement that would have someone who can win as a leader.

I'm not entirely sold on Obama. But, I'm even less sold on Clinton. She does have a better health care proposal (thank you JE), but on foreign policy she was perhaps the worst Democrat on those 8 or 9 person debate stages.
I do think it should somewhat discern us that Obama has Matthews support--but why does anybody think that will last? Isn't it possible that is a result of Matthew's disdain for Hillary, rather than fondness for Obama?

So the Obama administration *won't* bring big insurance to the table to negotiate a health care plan? Or are they not a "corporate interest"?

Obviously, the (current) title of this post is well in keeping with the overall history of the Left, so, no surprise there.
As for Obama, generally speaking, the great majority of Americans oppose someone who's such a strong supporter of illegal activity. That includes being just one of two Senators who assisted a foreign government with their goals, and that includes him being the only Senator who attended an event organized by those linked to a foreign government.
If I can get, say, Ron Paul supporters to go to his appearances and ask him about that I think everyone's going to be forced to realize just how bad a candidate he was.

"or invite "corporate interests" to the government trough."
Really?
Wow, because when I look at the FEC records of his campaign contributors, I notice that he's #3 in contributions from lobbyists, health insurance, defense, telecom industry and PAC's.
So, it seems a bit of a big-fat-lie to suggest otherwise.

Corporate interests? Yeah, that's right, b/c HRC voted for Dick Cheney's Energy bill and Obama didn't. Take that you Clinton lovers? Oh wait.

Corporate interests? Yeah, that's right, b/c HRC voted for Dick Cheney's Energy bill and Obama didn't. Take that you Clinton lovers? Oh wait.
And Obama spoke out in favor of Dick Cheney's War, and Clinton didn't vote for it or cheerlead for it until she realized it was a disaster.
Oh, wait.
Personally, supporting a flawed health care proposal or a flawed energy bill's less of a critical flaw than supporting a flawed war. The O'Hanlons and assorted Brookings Institute warmongers Hillary has around her frighten me. I worry that we'll be stampeded into bombing Iran and making things worse under President Clinton OR President McCain, and I'm not so worried about that with President Obama.

From where I'm sitting, it looks like the far Leftists are again picking the one candidate with the least chance of winning the general election.
Notice how there are no Repubs attacking Barack Obama during these primaries?
Why is that?
Think!
You have to understand, people. If a candidate is so embraced by the far left, that automatically means that that candidate is unacceptable to most of the country.

"it looks like the far Leftists are again picking the one candidate with the least chance of winning"
You mean like John Kerry? "Far left" liberals like that? Or Al Gore? Remember how wildy liberal he was in 2000?! Yeah, the DNC is always picking far leftists, not bland, conservative Democrats.
"You have to understand, people. "
Considering your previous statement, your advice is more than a bit presumptuous.

It was a bit over a year ago I got a robocall from De Niro asking me to vote for Clinton for Senate...

NJ is the kind of state that if the Nazis or or Commies or Al Qaida tried to take it over, they'd end up whacked in the trunk of a car inside of a week.

TLB: Is the fact that he "assisted a foreign government with their goals" supposed to strike fear and terror into our hearts?
Posted by: Rob Coover | February 4, 2008 3:38 PM
1. Regarding Kerry, see the description here: youtube.com/watch?v=9GQM-4q099A The Dems were too corrupt and too stupid to come out against one of the most un-American plans I've ever heard proposed by a mainstream elected official.
2. Regarding Rob Coover's comment, it's not supposed to strike fear in the hearts of most of those who read or write for this site. However, the vast majority of Americans will not look too kindly on a U.S. Senator who marched with those who are here illegally, especially when the march was organized by those with foreign links. One of the organizers is an official with a foreign political party.

De Niro on Tonya Harding's payroll now?

Riiiiight. Say, how's that Republican effort to stop "Juan" McCain going?
Immigration isn't the issue you think it is.

Now that we know who DeNiro is supporting, what's happened to the support of Robert Duvall. Last I heard, he was a Giuliani man. And what about Harvey Keitel. How come no one has told me who he supports?
Posted by: winer | February 4, 2008 4:48 PM
Ep Cow, please watch to see what will happen if Prez Juan and the Fortune 500 CEOs and the progressive multikulti wankers try to shove another Amnesties-R-Us bill down the throats of the American people. It won't be pleasant for those elites to feel the heat from another democratic grassroots uprising against their cynical ploy to dissolve the American people and elect a new one.

Another Obama myth. He takes all kinds of money from corporate interests. That's why he's competetive. And he will pay them back when he gets elected, just like hillary. Not a saint, just another player. Edwards was the guy who could make that claim, looks like Obama liked it too.

Wait, we're trying to whack His Royal Highness, Gov. Corzine, as we speak. I was at a funeral in Elizabeth yesterday and it was practically unanimous.
