LIGHTNING ROUND: SINBAD-CROW 08! TESTED AND READY!
- Comedian (and I use that term loosely) Sinbad today mocked Hillary Clinton for arguing that a trip she went on with him and Sheryl Crow represented a test of her foreign policy chops. This is what happens when you exaggerate your resume -- you get mocked by relics of the 90s.
- Meanwhile, there's an election today, but since Obama will certainly win, it doesn't count.
- Contrary to earlier reports, there may actually be some Edwards delegates at the DNC.
- Nancy Pelosi essentially laughs at the idea that John McCain is more qualified to be commander in chief than Obama.
- McCain's ties to lobbyists are emerging.
- I'm pretty sick of all this "someone said something stupid and I'm outraged. Outraged!" business, but I do want to say a few words about Geraldine Ferraro's comments that Obama wouldn't be in the position he's in if he were white. Saying this kind of thing is both pointless (Obama also wouldn't be where he is if he was three feet tall and born in Siberia) and offensive in that it insults the actual talents and appeal of politicians from traditionally disadvantaged groups. It's the same logic conservatives use to belittle any successful person who isn't a white man as an "affirmative action hire." I said the same thing last summer when Elizabeth Edwards made an analogous argument about Clinton and I'll say it again as many times as I need to. Ferraro should apologize and if she doesn't Clinton should do more than say she "disagrees." It's also pretty rich of her to say we should "keep this on the issues."
- I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Iraq war is a greater cause of American unpopularity around the world than farm subsidies. After all, Europe has far far higher subsidies and isn't nearly as hated as us. But when has the Weekly Standard let the facts stand in the way of a good zinger?
- Want to know what the blowup between Obama and McCain was about two years ago? Michael Crowley explains. To make a long story short, McCain flipped out pretty much for no good reason.
- Finally, the most awesome news of the day, at least for those of us who have to make jokes about politics regularly, is that Alan Keyes may run as the Constitution Party candidate.

"It's the same logic conservatives use to belittle any unsuccessful person who isn't a white man as an 'affirmative action hire.'"
Don't you mean to say, "any successful person...?"

Another overwhelmingly pro-Obama and anti-Hillary "lightning round". I'm not reading these any more.

First: "I'm pretty sick of all this "someone said something stupid and I'm outraged. Outraged!" business, ..." ... "Ferraro should apologize and if she doesn't, " whine whine whine.
Translation: "I'm sick of this outrage bs ... but I'm outraged!"
And we're sick of your bs, Tapped contributors.
I'm with capt crisis above -

Ferraro should apologize
I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that defending her statements as well as saying "I really think they're attacking me because I'm white." wasn't the follow-up you were looking for.

There's a primary in a Southern state? Let's find an older white woman to call "racist."
Axelrod has no respect for anyone, least of all African American voters.
Am I tired of the outrage? No. I'm tired of the total dishonesty and souless cynicism

To be clear, nobody is calling Ferraro racist. Elizabeth Edwards isn't sexist. But that doesn't mean either one of them should have said what they said...

This post is so biased. Everybody knows it should be Crow-Sinbad and not the other way around. It's so obvious that Tapped is in the tank for Sinbad.

More BS from Tapped. Spare me your fake outrage, Sam.
Geraldine Ferraro was exactly right in calling out a double standard. Obama would not be where he is without a virtual free ride.
He has repeatedly gone negative against Hillary while giving himself a plausible deniability.
I've seen plenty of t-shirts that say "Desperate Whitehouseives" and "Bro's Not Ho's," "First Cleaning Lady" toilet brushes, and Hillary nutcrackers.
Ever hear anyone yell to Obama, "Shine my shoes!"? But it's funny for radio station hecklers to yell "Iron my shirt!"
Rep. Shirley Chisholm, the first black female candidate for president said, "Of my two "handicaps" being female put more obstacles in my path than being black." She knew what she was talking about: Even the Congressional Black Caucus wouldn't support her.
It's clear that little progress has been made about putting a woman in the White House since Chisholm ran in 1972.

"Obama would not be where he is without a virtual free ride."
And Hillary would?

The war in Bosnia ended in December 1995. After that, there was no fighting or sniper fire in the country, especially not in March 1996.
I know this; I lived through the entire war as a child. I should put this on my resume, it seems it’s a great qualification for important positions.
If the trip was so dangerous, do you think they would send President’s wife and daughter there?

You may be sarcastic with your comment of the most awesome news of the day being that Alan Keyes may run as the Constitution Party candidate, but there are SOME of us who want to conserve America and will NOT vote for McCain.
For us, it is good news. www.alankeyes.com
