DEPARTMENT OF THINGS THAT REALLY NEED TO HAPPEN: RACHEL MADDOW WANTS HER OWN SHOW.
Watching the primary results last week on MSNBC I was struck by one thing: how did someone as sensible as Rachel Maddow make it onto a cable news channel? Seriously, she was the only one willing to tell the boring truth that nothing has really changed in the last few months, Clinton and Obama haven't been engaged in some thrilling back-and-forth, and voters couldn't care less about the various ridiculous scandals surrounding Obama. I also enjoyed watching her run circles around Pat Buchanan and then openly laugh at him.
Anyway, as Michael Calderone notes, she told NPR's fantastic "On the Media" that she is gunning for a show of her own (the whole interview is great and makes clear that she's thought a lot about the problems of cable news). Give someone who's smart and knowledgeable a political talk show? Now there's a novel idea.

Please! Please MSNBC! Please replace those snide frat boys Scarborough and Geist in the morning. I'm a political junkie and like having some conversation in the morning but even I can't stand that pair. I'd even be glad to have Imus back but Maddow would be great.
Not to mention, do we really have to have Pat Buchanan on every MSNBC show? Doesn't the guy even go home for a shower every once in awhile? Arren't there some labor laws in broadcsting? Can't you at least throw him out of the studio after 8 hours?

the biggest problem with any cabal infonews outlet giving Rqachel a show would be that they'd be compelled by the bosses to bracket it around with right-wing dreck, for 'balance.'

Though she was great too, except the following AP paraphrase from her concerns me:
However, she also said Matthews is the best political analyst on television for his knowledge, quickness and ability to be critical while anchoring a broadcast.

I loooove MADDow! She is awesome. She skewers the inane remarks of BOTH Scarborough and Buchannan. Both of those good ol boys can't stand how she take them to tasks and smashes their obvious race baiting emotional rants with suburb logic.
they HATe it!
And I LOVE it!...she also won't let them talk OVER her. They hate that too!!
You Go RAchel..keep bringing it to those good ol boys as they kick and scream and holler as America drags their backwoods, beerswilling, redneckthinking into the the 21st century.

Glad you mentioned Rachel, who clearly deserves a mainstream show. But first I would like to see her as a regular on George's Sunday morning show, to illustrate (as she does now with Pat) just how clueless Cokie, Sam and George truly are.

anything that takes time away from Matthews, Schuster and Olbermann is goodness you can use!

Count me among the throngs cheering for her. She is like a breath of fresh air. I love her frequent appearances on Olbermann's Countdown - it's like hearing from someone bright, funny, and most of all, living in the same reality.

I think that, given Matthews' power at MSNBC, she's not going to get a show there if she's too critical of him.

Dear Jeebus, whoever is behind these decisions, make it happen! Rachel Maddow is the best thing in news besides the sainted Bill Moyers. I simply can't imagine what it would be like if we had television news that provided intelligent, informed commentary as a general rule. Please, please, do America a desperately needed favor and give Rachel Maddow her own show.

I am also a new fan of Rachel Maddow. She is fresh, intelligent and runs circles around Pat Buchanan. I vote for her own show!!

Yes, she's especially deft at repeating Obama talking points in creative and fresh ways.

Yes, please. Please please please. And let her dress any way she likes.

Ahh, John Petty checking in from the "Everyone who's ever criticized Hillary is a hack" camp. I assume that group now includes NARAL and Edwards?
Maddow's fantastic. Not only does she make great points, but she raises the level of everyone else at the table by putting forward a point of view that's so different than the typical cable news folk.

Not really true. I like most of you guys. :)
I actually like Rachel Maddow too--or will when the election is over. For right now though, I find that she finds ever more interesting ways to spin things in a pro-Obama direction.

Yes, please! Rachel is brilliant and articulate, as well as nearly unflappable and quick with a clever comeback.
As for balance, perhaps she could slant (as all the other shows do already) towards having a majority of rightwing guests on for interviews. I'd love to see Mary Cheney answer some frank questions eye to eye.
