MARK HALPERIN: OH NOES, A WOMAN MIGHT GET THE JOB!

You know what is so offensive? Those damn P.C. police pressuring the president to place a second woman on the Supreme Court. You know, because it's not embarrassing or anything that although 51 percent of the population is female, only 11 percent of the Court is. And it's not like the Court routinely makes decisions that affect women's health and very autonomy! No, siree. Let's get a white dude in there!

To be serious for a moment, we should expect a whole lot more of this as the nomination process gets underway. But since there are so many eminently qualified women of all races, I have to assume that anybody who makes this complaint is really just, in their heart of hearts, offended by diversity and equality in representation.

But it's not fair! What about the people whose penises and lack of pigmentation make the "the most qualified"????

Also, is there any doubt that if the man in that picture was black (or if it was any minority woman) this would be Exhibit A of "the race card"? Wouldn't it be on the verge of Marion Barry -- if not Jeremiah Wright -- territory?

But since it's a white dude, it's actually just racist to notice the implicit racism....

I did not know that Roberts and Alito weren't white.

Waaaaaah the ACLU and all those PC-fascistists are going to take over America where are those cool and in-your-face right-wing anti-PC guys when you need them?!

And yet he thinks Roberts and Alito got the job solely because of their "qualifications." When white men get the job, no one bats an eye, even if it's time and time again. But a woman or person of color and then it must be bias! I mean, it's not like a woman or person of color can ever be truly as qualified as a white man.

I hope Obama doesn't consider gender or color as tokens to be put on the Court and fully allows himself to choose the best justices possible, which will most likely naturally result in much-needed diversity (i.e. meritocracy).

Remember, if all those dark skinned folk weren't confounding the survey data, we'd realize that Obama isn't actually so popular.

Quota-mania! Catch it!

Well obviously none of these women have earned it like Mark "Son of Mort" Halperin.

In order to be confirmed, every Supreme Court appointee should have to prove that he or she is the most qualified person for the job, and if not, tell us who is. That way, we'll always know for sure.

I very much doubt that there is a unequivocal ranking list of the persons qualified to be on the SCOTUS rather than a group of at least a few tens, if not a few hundreds of such people with fairly equal qualifications.

And why should the composition of the SCOTUS not be more of a reflection of the American society? If that means that 'White men need not apply', then so be it. They have been favored long enough. Or how did the imbalance of the current SCOTUS come about?

They have been favored long enough.

True dat, SRW1. When can we start thinning the herd?

One word:

Bravo!

Good post, thanks a lot. There is not a question of whether there are enough people to possibly be trained to practice medicine. There is only the question of whether you want one more doctor or one more derivatives trader.

I think Potfry has the right idea: cull the herd. Hell, why not. Get Pelosi, Reed, Waxman, Waters and the other heroes and let's go hunt down white men! Just shoot 'em in the street the unqualified bastards! The White Privilege sonsabitches! That'll teach you to be straight, white, and male around here, Bud. Huh? Me?? But...ahh...wait a minute, Dude...I'm one of the good white guys who let's you know how much he wants diversity and how much he is embarrassed for his race...[BLAM!]. Nice shot, Mrs. Boxer! Oh, and um, your husband is next.
