THINGS BLACK PEOPLE DON'T DO.
Apparently all that time Obama spent talking about economics, national security, and health care is stuff black people don't do.
Americans got a rare glimpse Wednesday night of what it means to have a black president in the Oval Office.
In response to a question at his prime-time news conference about the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr., the black Harvard professor, in his own home over the weekend, Mr. Obama declared that the Cambridge, Mass., police had “acted stupidly.”
See, black people complain about "The Man." That's all we do.
"The" black Harvard professor. There's only one, apparently.

I emailed Kit about this and how offensive her whole article was and her response was:
"Thank you for your email. I in no way was trying to offend anyone but was just stating facts."

The fact that Washington DC is a white, aristocratic town really comes to the fore in stories like this. I'm sure she didn't actually mean to offend. She's just too entrenched in southern viewpoints to understand that what she is doing is offensive.
I can guarantee you that outside of some really racist suburbs, Obama's comments won't be argued against north of the mason dixon line.

A glimpse??? The man is on TV everyday.
A classic example of a ..
stupid article.

What I would really like to see is about 1,000 minority people drive to the town in Missouri where you get a free AK47 with the purchase, go there and take them up on their offer.
We could probably pass single payer when a lot of the die hard southern democrats and republicans drop dead of heart attacks.

Yep, that's totally the only noteworthy thing we do. Complain about The Man. Thanks for reminding me, NY Times. I better go change into my "KILL WHITEY" T-shirt.
I just love how much Katharine Seelye casually reinforces this deliberately blind perspective on contemporary race relations. Her article drips with an accusatory tone, as if Obama "stepped out of line" by candidly responding to the Gates incident.
All of this "buzz" around Gates makes it all the more apparent how white and privileged Washington DC, the majority of mainstream journalism, and the majority of otherwise progressive spaces (online and off) are.

I thought Chris Matthews's head was going to pop off his shoulders and fly around the studio this evening. The President called it like he saw it. That is not the exclusive prerogative of black people, but it is a cut above the usual lies and meaningless bullshit we hear from white Republican politicians. And Kit Seelye is one of the blithering idiots who spent eight years as a stenographer to the Bush Administration. Of course she'd get this story wrong!

I can't see how anyone, white, black, or purple, would think the police didn't act stupidly. The problem is that whenever something happens between people of different color, someone will make an issue of it. We can't disagree because we disagree, someone has to make it an issue of race.

Now that we've heard from President Obama on this event it would be interesting to hear from Michael Steele.

And JA

Professor Gates is another profiteer of the lucrative American race industry, albeit ostensibly a more respectable one than bottom-feeders such as Sharpton, Jackson, Wright and Kimber. I am certain that many intelligent Americans suspect that his immediate reaction upon being questioned by police was less a matter of righteous indignation than a quick realization that here was a golden opportunity for another 15 minutes for his victim agenda. The current administration has intertwined itself with the race industry more than any other and it's just going to get worse.

Profiteering in this case assumes that forgetting his key to the front door was premeditated and the arrest after a showing of I.D. was a remarkable feat of prediction.

Obviously Gates did not forget his key on purpose and was not planning on a visit from the police, but once it happened I think it quite likely that he immediately started his tirade with the intention of having the incident escalate to the point where he could profit from it. Opportunity knocks sometimes and being an obviously intelligent individual he put victim mode in motion, a well practiced cultural behavior.

No need for Steele and Ja anymore.
Thanks Glenn.
