I KNOW DAN QUAYLE, AND GOVERNOR...

I don't know Dan Quayle. But I hope that whatever golf course he's on, he's duly offended by the day's frequent comparisons between John McCain's frantic selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate and his own selection in 1988. Let's look at the record:

  • Quayle: Two terms in the U.S. House, eight years in the U.S. Senate, representing a state of 6.5 million people.
  • Palin: City council member and mayor of a town of 8,500 people, 20 months as governor of a state of 650,000 people.

No, Governor Palin, you're no Dan Quayle. Maybe in a few years.

--Mark Schmitt.

COMMENTS

Agreed. Quayle was a serious pick compared to this.

But watching her, she reads a speech better than McCain. she's a former TV sports newsreader.

It reeks of gimmick and gamble. And the media will love her I'm sure.

I note in her speech she referred effusively to Hillary Clinton and the crowd cheered (a crowd that would have screamed "bitch" if HRC were the nominee).

Well, Drill Here, Drill Now, Drill Palin is the campaign theme I guess.

Drilling in Anwar--yes. CNBC's Maria Bartiromo already has an interview with her, to run on the Closing Bell. 4pm, I think.

She's like the cat that swallowed the canary over it, too.

For the record, the town Governor Palin was mayor of has a population of about 8,500 today; it was about 5,500 in the 2000 census, about the time she was mayor.

Just sayin'.

Palin: City council member and mayor of a town of 8,500 people, 20 months as governor of a state of 650,000 people.

Well, I'm in the tank for Palin, but I would think that attacking her experience--especially because she was a mayor of a small town and a governor of a "flyover" state--is ill advised. But, if that's how the Dems wanna roll, go for it.

Well, Drill Here, Drill Now, Drill Palin is the campaign theme I guess.

Awesome. I hope "Reagan with a Vagina" and that find there way into an Obama commercial.

Note however, that Bush-Quayle won the election in 1988.

Let's not forget that went Bush picked Quayle he was considered a rising star in Congress. A person with a strong career ahead of him and a young power broker. Palin is known for being America's Hottest Governor from the state who's entire existence is from federal subsidies. Just so it's clear: no other state gets more and gives less to the Federal government than Alaska. Neat ownership society that... as it turns out we all own a piece of Alaska.

I'm waiting for Biden to say in the debates "I knew Dan Quayle, I served with Dan Quayle, Dan Quayle was a friend of mine, and Governor, you're no Dan Quayle. Despite Quayle's verbal gaffes, if you seriously observe his record, he did fine. However, this definitely makes Quayle look like George Washington compared to Palin.
