THE NINO BROWN GAMBIT.

Remember that scene in New Jack City, where there's a shootout at a wedding, and just to make the villain Nino Brown more despicable, director Mario Van Peebles has him snatch a baby out of a nearby carriage and use it to shield himself from gunfire?

Well the political version of that looks something like this:

Though McCain is widely perceived to to drawn first blood by attacking Obama's character, the official said that the difference between Obama's mocking McCain for his wealth and his shaky answer on the number of homes he owns was that McCain's charge "reflects an existential reality," where Obama's charges "attack Cindy. She owns the homes. I thought he said the wives were off-limits."

Really? When you come under fire, the first thing you do is duck behind your wife? At least Nino Brown could say it wasn't his baby. What's next? Is the Campaign going to blame the McCain's hundreds of thousands in credit card debt on their daughter?

Let's be clear about this. Obama didn't bring up John McCain's wife. John McCain brought up John McCain's wife.

Fill in the blank.
1) John Kerry's wife is a megarich heiress.
2. Republicans attacked Kerry as a "kept man" because of this.
3. John McCain's wife is a megarich heiress.
4. By Republican standards, this makes John McCain a ______.

Well, since we are talking about connections to felons. Besides John McCain's felon buddies Charles Keating and Abramoff, the entire Cindy McCain fortune is based on a criminal enterprise.

The father of Cindy McCain, James Hensley, was convicted by a federal jury in U.S. District Court of Arizona in March 1948 on seven counts of filing false liquor records. Hensley also was charged with conspiracy to hide from federal authorities the names of persons involved in a liquor industry racket with two companies he managed, United Sales Company in Phoenix and United Distributors in Tucson.

The umbrella company, United Liquor, at that time held a monopoly in Arizona, organized and managed by Kemper Marley, who was accused of mob ties by a reporter who was murdered in 1977.

Let's see an ad on that!

And John McCain's wife brought up Barack Obama's wife.

Steve, the answer to #4 is clearly a mavericky pow maverick.

Obama's handlers just brought his shady dealings with convicted felon Rezko into the race themselves. Now, anything connected to Rezko is fair game. The idiots!

Go ahead, Joe Yowza. If you can find something, bring it on. To the Repugs, it was always fair game and they haven't been able to do jack sh*t with it. Good luck with that line of attack.

I think you should surrender on defending Obama of charges of "elitism." That cow's well out of the barn.

This article in ths NYTimes this morning describes how he delivered this long winded lecture to a questioner in VA who asked what he was going to do about poverty. The lecture topic was on how the poor didn't really want a class war--just a chance to enter the middle class-- so don't you believe it about that class war, along with some policy prescriptions.

This response seemed so fucked up, given that Obama knows he has a huge credibility problem with a lot of people on precisely the issue of the labor market and poverty, that I decided to take a look at this town's demographics.

Based on this, I figure that at best, the well situated people in this particular town are the sort who are concerned about what it is their kids are supposed to be doing with those over-priced college degrees they're never going to pay off what with declining wages in white collar occupations and all that. A handful of them probably don't want their capital gains taxes increased. (God knows, I don't, what with declining white collar wages and all that).

If anything, on balance, they're looking to *start* that class war--and because they're informed, not because they're uninformed ignorant hicks, out to persecute the welfare queens that don't exist.

At some point, you do have to ask yourself if defending this kind of stupidity and verbal diarrhea is really justified on the notion that the other guy is stupider and richer.

There is such a thing as having it too easy, and Obama is looking to me like he had it too easy. If you don't know that each and every middle class generation in this country has to enter the middle class anew--unless you're actually hand you a silver spoon on their death beds-- then you simply had it too damn easy.

End of discussion.

Rather than mollycoddling the Democratic nominee's learned stupidity, someone needs to kick his ass along that learning curve much, much quicker.

So, by the power of the attributive property, that makes Cindy McCain a P.O.W.?

Or, a duck. (h/t Monty Python)

Yeah, the McCain campaign would never have mentioned Rezco if Obama hadn't forced him to. Would never have even been raised in this race.

Hey, did you know McCain is a former POW? It's been a pretty closely held secret, because he doesn't like to mention it.

The wives were off limits? Actually, the Obama campaign has shown considerable restraint regarding Senator McCain's sugar mama.

If Michelle Obama had admitted stealing drugs to feed her addiction, does anyone think that the Republicans would have kept that off limits?

If Barack Obama had told a group of bikers, with Michelle standing on stage next to him, that he had encouraged her to enter a beauty contest that had included a competition wherein the contestants had simulated fellatio on a banana, would the Republicans have kept that off limits?

If Barack Obama had called Michelle Obama a cunt and a trollop with reporters present, would the Republicans have kept that off limits?

If Michelle Obama had acknowledged stealing and received diversion in lieu of prosecution, would the Republicans have kept that off limits?

Sure they would--when pigs fly.
