NYET GAIN. Via the Progress Report, we learn that today has been designated the Day of Conception in Russia, which just happens to coincide with Putin's unceremonious disbanding of the government. Today falls exactly nine months before Russia Day, and as one of Putin's policies to encourage more breeding in his country, he's offered SUVs, refrigerators, and monetary rewards to anyone who gives birth on June 12. So the mayor of Ulyanovsk, a region in central Russia, has given workers there the afternoon off to make with the baby making. Everyone who gives birth is a winner in the "Give Birth to a Patriot on Russia's Independence Day" contest, but the grand prize winner -- judged on qualities like "respectability" and "commendable parenting" -- gets to take home a UAZ-Patriot, a Russian-made SUV.

"I don't think people get pregnant just to get a prize on the 12th (of June) but if the dates coincide and they give you a ... car there's nothing wrong with that," Yuri, a 28-year-old father-to-be who declined to his last name, told CBS.

Sorry it's off-topic but I just thought I would post this where people could easily find it. Ever heard of the blog MoxieGrrrl.com? If you haven't don't feel bad, most people haven't heard of it either. Just wanted to let everyone here know that Moxie is what's known as a Left gatekeeper, which is someone like Michael Moore or Amy Goodman or Noam Chomsky or Bill Maher etc., who at first blush appears to be a genuine leftist but who strives tirelessly to steer discourse away from matters that would be the most damaging to the establishment, for example 9/11 and U.S. government complicity. She goes about it in quite an immature fashion too, in deleting anyone's posts she can't disprove. For a while she didn't delete posts but just clammed up whenever someone mentioned the 9/11 false flag operation, and for a while I gave her the benefit of the doubt, thinking "Perhaps she's just very psychologically cowardly and can't bear to face unpleasant facts". Well now she is deleting peoples' posts that she cannot disprove and I've called her out on it. Moxie Grrrl is a dupe and a Left gatekeeper. So if you want to go see a blogger that pretends to be edgy and leftist but is nothing more than a gutless, soulless Left gatekeeper carrying water for the mass murderers who brought you the 9/11 inside job, then by all means go to MoxieGrrrl.com. If you want genuine political discourse, go elsewhere. Thank you for your time.

Wow, anonymous, that sure WAS off topic.

As for the topic . . . speaking as a man, I can't imagine a policy better designed to discourage sexual activity than to make it an officially sanctioned government activity. It's hard enough trying to have sex when you're trying to conceive a child and it's the "right" time of month. Trying to do it while imagining Vladimir Putin cheering you on would be even harder.

Dunno, you get a car. A car. For having sex with a woman. What self-respecting heterosexual man needs more incentive?

Also, Putin is like a god over there.

How odd that they are not asking women in that excerpt. I would think it is the women who deserve the car. They are the ones who are supposed to do the work, after all.

Is it just me, or does every week bring news that makes Russia seem more like 1937 Germany?
