SEX: MORE PLENTIFUL IN THE FIRST WORLD.
Foreign Policy has an infographic in this month's issue about sex, and safe sex, around the world. Seems the number of sexual partners grows with income; people in low-income countries average 6.3 partners, while high-income countries average 9.7. People in high-income nations also have sex earlier, and are more likely to have unprotected sex – with nations like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Australia and New Zealand at the head of the pack. Also, Icelanders and Germans lose their virginity earliest, and your sexual preference isn't a very likely determinant of whether or not you use protection. The info comes from the world's largest survey of sexual behavior, conducted by Durex (the condom purveyor). Fascinating.

When you say "sexual preference" do you mean "sexual orientation?" They mean different things, no?

This was taken from their 2005 online survey. If you think about it, in high income countries a very large percentage of the population will have internet access and the opportunity to take part in the survey. The same does not apply to low income countries, not even close and those that do are liable to be better educated. Apart from South Africa, where is the representation from sub-Saharan Africa? In this href = "http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportId=61595">article from IRIN the researchers found that only 45% of students in Swaziland always practised safe sex. Nearly 40% of sexually active adults in Swaziland are HIV positive.
