USING FAMILY AS A GAY RIGHTS PROXY.

Edwards is doing it again! In the last debate, John Edwards said he was against gay marriage, but his wife Elizabeth supported it. This time, he tells us his daughter Cate supports gay marriage. He bets his 9-year old and 7-year old will probably someday support gay marriage, too.

Wow. Obama jumps onto the bandwagon! He hasn't personally talked to his daughters about gay marriage, but, "My wife has."

What's going on? Is gay rights spouse's work?

poor night for clinton and obama. better night for biden and edwards.

Is gay rights spouse's work?

What the hell?

Look, EE has said before she supports gay marriage and that while John's position has evolved, he's not where she is yet.

As for Michelle Obama, with two daughters, it's more likely that they ask her questions than him since a) she's mom and b) he's frequently on the road.

But "spouse's work"? Sheesh.

What's going on is clear pandering. The best translation of the candidates' statements: "I favor discriminating against gays and lesbians, but they should vote for me anyway based on the hope that my relatives who aren't bigots like I am might convince me to change my position".

If you guys come visit my blog and read some of the comments posted, you will see some of the strange arguments against gay marriage. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. It isn't as pressing of an issue as say, the health care crisis or access to higher education. But it certainly ruffles some feathers, and I think that Edwards and Obama are both thinking about the South, where they have to post wins and increase their standing... so they are going to waffle and sound wishy washy on this one.
