The group blog of The American Prospect

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THE FIRST YEAR?

Obama: reverse executive orders that have undermined our civil liberties, work on health care.

Biden: abandon policies on torture, prisoners, create emergency health care funds on path to universal health care, invest in preschool education.

Richardson: energy strategy to reduce foreign oil imports, bring back habeas corpus, stop using torture, restore ourselves as a nation.

Dodd: appeal to unity, give back Constitution, robust diplomacy in the Middle East, a week after the election get people together to talk about energy and health care.

Edwards: end the war, close Guantanamo, begin process on universal health care and global warming.

Clinton: begin to end war in Iraq and bring troops home, rescind executive orders that take away liberties, end Bush's war on science.

After the past 7 years, answering this question is like shooting fish in a barrel.

Your lists here are a little different from the NYT's liveblog summary -- for instance, they don't list health care as an Edwards priority (which suprised me when I read it). I'll assume you're right & they're sloppy.

That said -- I wonder why none of the candidates (judging from what I've read here & at NYT) made more emphatic promises about health care reform. Wouldn't a new president need to push hard on something like that right away, during the "honeymoon" period?

What is really going on? Hillary has said she will repeal presidential orders placed in our laws by other presidents. Like her “divine” understand is what we want swinging an ax to our laws to become what she wants with out our votes on those matters. Isn’t that in essence communism? Maybe she is the reason women should not lead. Or has everyone forgotten that Bill wrote more undisclosed presidential orders than any other president in history. Not mentioning the pardons of law that were handed out like candy by the Clinton Out House

I would have said Bill and Hillary, but that would be the same mistake she is making to the press every day. Hillary was never in any elected office in the White House yet she claims to have 8 years experience there. Please every one else stick to reality with me a moment. If she were in any office in the White House Bill might not have …

Well anyway people the matter here is that her and Bill have spoken the communist lingo like a pros or puppets for as long as we have heard their name in politics, at one point he even made statements to the press that he could be the last president America ever sees.

So are we all short of memory all of a sudden or are we humoring her? We had to power wash the white house, and replace a lot of really stupid damages, again in the press, and then we had to ask them to return all the items they stole out of the white house when they left.

For 3 solid years America was left in shame on the global front because we had all mistakenly placed a immature lil’ boy into our driver seat.

ALL of these things were in the press; including some information recognizing their communist stance with statements like her own, “We will all have to give up some of our rights for (her)the greater good?” Is this or is this not what the sweet young lady the acclaimed writer, Naomi Wolf was warning against in her own (10 steps) way?

Ok so what’s the deal are we just letting her spend the money, or have we gotten to the point that the up and comers (new voters) have been watching more cartoons then news reels and so we are fallowing a “cartoon” election or, the worse yet, are we all out of our minds?

Come on America; wake up already, your scaring me.
With love
One loyal American to others.

JG Knight -- are you actually paod to post stupid made-up sh_t that has been debunked, or are you just a Fox "News" watcher?

Every single one of the current Senators running could have been doing all these things all along--and should have been. They haven't, and none have been willing to go to the mat or stand out at all. Any one of them--if they really cared enough--could have used their media attention and political capital and actually done something--from actual filibusters, to stopping bad bills in committee, and stopping bad nominees, and instigating subpoenas on committees, etc.

Not one of them does anything more than just talk. It's pathetic.
